The Xijen College Tech-Voc Department will open the Hairdressing NC II training program within the school year 2010-2011.  The school will partner with Herman Malafu, owner of Erica’s Beauty Parlor.  Malafu has been in the hairdressing business for twenty (20) years.  Malafu will share his extensive experience in hairdressing to prospective students who plan a career in the beauty business.

The opening of a Hairdressing Course will provide opportunities for young people who cannot afford a college degree.  Malafu stressed that learning hairdressing skills provides self-employment opportunities.  With this developments, Malafu will head the training program together with other hairdressers who have committed to be in the trainer’s pool.

Xijen College will provide the facilities needed for the training.

buddy press website

Xijen College of Mountain Province has setup  ”Buddy Press” on the college’s official website (www.xijen.com).  BuddyPress is a social network application that can be embedded in a website.  School sites tend to be sources of information on courses offered, school activitities and final grades.   School sites tend to be straightforward and offer less interactivity.  BuddyPress will try to change this.  As mentioned in its website, www.buddypress.org : 

“BuddyPress is built to bring people together. It works well to enable people with similar interests to connect and communicate. Some of the fantastic uses might be:

• A campus wide social network for your university, school or college.
• An internal communication tool for your company.”

With this in mind, students of Xijen College who are familiar with Facebook can find a new social network service to explore-right on the college’s website.  The school administration will encourage teachers to use Buddy Press as an extension of their classes.  In Buddy Press, groups can be formed where discussions and working on projects, assignments can be done.   The application will also hope to encourage a more comprehensive interaction between groups or students and teachers.  Several support application have been integrated in Buddy Press and this includes a “like” button similar to Facebook’s, a photo album generator, documents/file sharing and more.

In Municipal Ordinance No. 141, s. 2009 introduced by councilors Cyril Bacala, Sr., Pascual Sacgaca, Ignacio Afidchao and Welbert Padnangaran, Municipal Scholars can enroll at the Xijen College of Mountain Province, a private institution and other Colleges in the Future.

Under Ordinance No. 86, the municipal scholarship program covers only the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) being the only college existing in the municipality at that time of the enactment of the Ordinance in 2005.

The equal sharing of the three scholars per barangay is also amended. Each barangay shall have two additional scholars in addition to the existing three allotments totaling to five scholars and maybe increase subject to availability of funds.

This Ordinance shall take effect the first semester of 2010 after each publication in the newspaper of local circulation. /   Juliet B. Sally–PIA

Internet Shops…

 When you visit Bontoc, you will notice shops called Internet Café or Computer Gaming Shops offering various computer related services.  Try to ask those who run or manage the shops, chances are, they are graduates of Xijen.  If other schools advertise their graduate’s passing rates, we are most happy knowing that our graduates are able to get employment.  With these developments we continue to strive to make sure that the courses we offer are relevant to the needs of the times.

STUDENT SERVICES

Our school provides essential student services such as clean toilets with running water, mini canteen, reasonably priced printing and internet services, library, sports facilities, student email, student support groups, professional guidance counselor, student locker , text books,  We also make it a point to inform parents about their status in school including absences, grades.  Student accident insurance is also included.

For the first semester 2009, we opened our clinic and dental service.  Our school is located a few minutes walk to the Bontoc General Hospital.

Degree Programs

Xijen College has also embarked on offering 4 Year programs to include Education (BS Secondary Education), Business Administration (BS Entreprreneurship) and Information Technology (BS Information Technology).  A certificate course -Small Business Management is also offered online.

 Welcome to the Xijen College Online Program.  Courses in the Online College Program are delivered in Distance Education (DE) primarily using the Internet.   Students enrolled in the program must have access to a computer with Internet connection.  A visit to an Internet café will be your lowest cost alternative to access your lessons online.

 Program Requirements:

1. A.        E-mail address-you need an email address to enroll in the online courses.

 You can use your existing email address or you can opt to register for the free email service of Xijen (powered by Google).  If you already have an e-mail address you can proceed directly to section B.  To register for an email address at Xijen:

 Text your preferred username to tech support at 0920 903 1948.

1. Wait for confirmation of your username and password.
2.  Start your Internet browser (ie, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera) and log on to www.xijen.com/elearning
3. Click on Quick Link to Xijen G-Mail, this is found on the topmost box on the site’s front page. (see illustration).  You can also access your email portal directly at https://www.google.com/a/xijen

4.   This is now your email portal:

1.  Enter your username and password.
2. Change your given password. 

Here’s how to change your password:

• Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page, and open the Accounts tab.
• Click Google Account settings.
• In the new window, click Change password under the Personal information option.
• Enter your current password and your new password.
• Make sure you create a unique password to help keep someone from breaking in to your account. Here are a few tips for creating your password, and keeping it safe:
• Never tell anyone your password.
• Never write down your password. Even though your password will look random to others, think of a way to remember it so that you don’t have to write it down.
• Change your password periodically.
• Don’t choose a dictionary word as your password. Be creative.
• Include punctuation marks. Mix capital and lowercase letters. Use numbers. A variety of characters makes it harder to guess a password.

 B.  ENROLL IN YOUR COURSE

Aside from enrolling in an online course, we have to formally enroll in our online learning portal.  To do this:

1.  Log on to www.xijen.com/elearning and click on Login (found at the top corner, right side)

2. This is how your account enrollment page will look like, fill in the information required

1. Follow the instructions provided and log on to your email account, confirm your registration.
2. You will be brought to the xijen.com/elearning portal.
3. Click on log-in, enter your username and password
4. Scroll down to My Courses
5. Look for your enrolled course (ex.  Entrepreneurship, Certificate Course:  Staring and Managing a Small Enterprise
6. Enter your enrollment Key (supplied via a call or text message from 0920 903 1948
7. You can now access your lessons.
8. If you have a problem in enrollment please contact 0920 903 1948.

1. C.       Supplemental Materials

Supplemental materials in hard copy format are provided.  For those who opt to return the materials after the course, you can make a deposit.  The deposit made shall be refunded upon return of the materials.

Other supplemental materials (pop sheets) shall be separately charged at two pesos a copy.  Billing shall be provided at the end of the course.

Admission Requirements:

A.  New students must show the following entrance documents.

a. Form 138 (High School Report Card)
b. A certificate from the Principal that the student is a bonafide graduate of high school
c. Two pieces of 2”x2” ID picture
d. Photocopy of Birth Certificate
e. NCAE result original copy

2. RETENTION POLICY

The following system of academic progress applies to all students of Xijen College of Mt. Province. The college minimum standard for academic achievement is 75% and the minimum load is 15 units in a semester. The academic retention is based solely on Grade Weighted Average of the student.

3. RESIDENT STUDENT

All bonafide students of XCMP are classified bonafide students.

TRANSFER STUDENTS – An admitted transfer student from college or school receives credit for all subjects he passed provided the subject description and the corresponding number of units is the same or similar to what the school is offering. XCMP requires a transferee student a resident of 50% of the total units for the degree. Before the transferee student is admitted in the college he/she is also required to present transfer credentials.

Special consideration is given to transfer students from vocational schools. Credits are given to subjects provided the course is recognized by the TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) and have a corresponding TESDA or the old TVED Recognition Number.

DEGREE HOLDERS are those who have already graduated from college but still want to broaden their knowledge. No special document is required for them to enroll. If they wish to have a college subject credited, a certified true copy of their transcript of records must be submitted to the Registrar.

4. NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS

CROSS ENROLLEES are students in other institutions who desire to cross- enroll in the college. The student must present a permit issued by the resident school and must specify the course and units he/she is authorized to enroll at a specified term.

5. WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Withdrawal from enrollment or dropping or changing of course, course, or schedule is allowed:

1. For Valid/urgent reasons;
2. Within the prescribe time;
3. Upon compliance of the required procedure;
4. Only upon approval of the College Dean or the Chief Executive

Notice of Cancellation or withdrawal must be written and is given two days prior to the withdrawal. He/she will get a full refund of the amount minus a processing charge of P500.00 regardless of the amount for the first week of classes or during the enrollment. Another P500.00 deduction from the amount paid per week which will not exceed 4 weeks.
